TED is coming to San Diego, and the context matters.
TED has announced that its flagship annual conference will move to San Diego starting in 2027, after more than a decade in Vancouver. With that decision, San Diego becomes the home of TED’s most iconic global gathering.
Beyond the location change, the announcement points to something broader. TED describes San Diego as a place where research, applied science, creativity, and global connection intersect in a sustained way. Not a temporary stage, but an environment built for long-term idea exchange.
When an organization like TED commits to a city at this level, it often reflects where meaningful work is happening across disciplines, and where talent, experimentation, and execution are converging.
We see this as an important signal for the region and for companies paying attention to where global conversations are increasingly grounded.
We’d love to hear from our community.
What do you think this move says about San Diego’s role on the global stage?
